We are excited to announce that Emily Penn and Round the World Mission Lead Sally Earthrowl are taking part in a Royal Geographic Society with IGB speaker series throughout autumn.

Between September and November, Emily and Sally will be sharing their adventures at sea, their experiences as ocean advocates, and their approach to delivering a plastic-free ocean, across four separate talks.

For more details on the individual events please see the information listed below.

Navigating our way towards a plastic-free ocean with Emily Penn

Having spent a decade at sea, exploring plastic pollution from the tropics to the Arctic, Emily will share her adventures connecting her scientific insights from eXXpedition to upstream solutions on land.

Emily Penn is an architect turned ocean advocate and skipper. After rounding the globe on a record-breaking bio-fuelled boat, she spent 10 years at sea, exploring and discovering oceanic gyres – huge areas of plastic accumulation.

Emily now runs her not-for-profit eXXpedition; a series of all women voyages on a mission to help people understand the true ocean plastic and toxic pollution problem, so they can use their skills to solve it from sea to source.

Emily will be speaking at two locations over the autumn period.

Navigating our way towards a plastic-free ocean with Sally Earthrowl

Living in Indonesia, Sally saw first-hand the devastating impact of plastic pollution and was propelled to take action.

Sally will share her tales of discovery, from scientific research at sea to the upstream solutions on land, and how all of us have a part to play in tackling this global issue.

Sally is a keen environmentalist, adventurer and geography teacher. In 2018, Sally joined eXXpedition, sailing through the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and gaining first hand experience of the extent of plastic in our ocean. Sally then became the Mission Lead for eXXpedition Round the World, contributing to scientific research, and helping others develop their skills to tackle the global challenge of plastic pollution.

Sally will also be speaking at twice this autumn, in two different locations.
